The community of Erin Mills owes its name to the land developers who, in the mid 1950s bought farmland and started the development of “New Town.” The name “Erin Mills” was formed by its close proximity to Erindale village and the land of many grist mills that operated on the banks of the nearby Credit River. Erin Mills became part of the Town of Mississauga in 1968.
Erin Mills South (known later as Erin Mills) was built beginning in the early 1970s continuing through the decade. Erin Mills West was completed in the mid-1980s. This area was part of the town of Oakville until 1974 when the city of Mississauga was established and its west boundary was extended to 9th line north of Dundas Street West.
Erin Mills Central, is for the most part, fully developed. This section contains everything from hi-rise condominiums to large family homes. The community is a relatively new neighborhood in Mississauga, where development took hold in the late 1980s – culminating in the completion of the Erin Mills Town Centre in 1989. The iconic clock tower of the mall’s main building is known as a local landmark.
These days, quiet and inviting streets such as Credit Valley Road and Plantation Place are home to many charming detached residences perfect for families. Credit Valley Hospital, the largest in Mississauga, is located in this area.
Churchill Meadows was mostly developed from 2000 to 2010, and presents many attractive choices for the first time homebuyer and young families. This is a much sought after community in Mississauga. Churchill Meadows can be described as an urban village that was built with the future in mind. The lots here are smaller - but streets are smartly laid out and parks and schools are conveniently integrated into the community. Interesting architecture of the homes adds to the appeal with a blend of classic design and modern materials.
Townhomes, detached and luxury homes provide buyers with a lot of variety in Churchill Meadows. Modern layout, quality finishes and design with a family in mind are some of the characteristics of properties in this area.
Many of the new subdivisions between Brittania Road to the North, and Eglinton Avenue to the South are low to medium density residential, and as with the previous phases, land for parks has been protected from development. This section of Erin Mills borders the mostly rural section of the town of Milton, located to the west. The older suburban development of Meadowvale borders the area to the north.
