New Toronto is located in the south-west area of Toronto, along Lake Ontario. The town of New Toronto was established in 1890, which was designed and planned as an industrial centre by a group of industrialists from Toronto.
New Toronto was originally part of the Township of Etobicoke. It was an independent municipality from 1913 to 1967, being one of the former Lakeshore Municipalities merged together into the Borough of Etobicoke, and eventually merged into Toronto.
New Toronto is bordered by Lake Ontario to the south, with a western boundary of Twenty-Third St. and the midpoint between Twenty-Second St. (south of Lake Shore Blvd. West) and Twenty-Fourth St. (north of Lake Shore Blvd. West), the Canadian National Railway mainline to the north and Dwight Ave. to the east. The neighbourhood of Mimico is to the east, and the neighbourhood of Long Branch is to the west.
It is a neighbourhood in transition as the industrial corridor located at the north end of the neighbourhood has recently been converted into residential zoning. Industry is gradually moving out of New Toronto and plans are underway for new home developments in this part of the neighbourhood.
Currently New Toronto is home to residents from a wide mix of cultures and incomes and includes a large senior population. Bike trails, convenient TTC and Go Transit service, affordable homes and quick access to downtown Toronto are huge incentives to live in the area.
New Toronto also boasts baseball diamonds at Rotary Peace Park, playgrounds, splash pads and rollerblading areas at Prince of Wales Park, and a dog park at Colonel Samuel Smith Park. Residents can head to Ourland Community Centre for tennis, bocce ball and kids’ camps, and can skate at Mimico Area.
This is an up-and-coming neighbourhood with beautiful public parkland, easy access to public transit, located conveniently close to pubs, restaurants, specialty coffee shops and Colonel Samuel Smith Park, which contains some of the oldest buildings in Toronto.
Our goal is to make the process as easy as possible for you. Gain access to our extensive network of established and preferred vendors and service providers whom we trust and have built long-lasting relationships with.
